So beautiful, yet so sad

We went to check out Abu Simbel this morning. The temples are down near the Sudan border and so we were up early to reach them and stay out of the heat. Josh saw an amazing sunrise over the desert, while I slept. Abu Simbel was beautiful.....google it and you'll see the pictures.

While we've been truly amazed at everything that we've seen, but it's kind of sad in a way. The Egyptian people haven't really given much thought to their actions and what will happen down the road. For instance, they built a high damn at Aswan and a low damn at Aswan to harvest the power from the Nile and build a hydro electric power facility, but in turn flooded a bunch of villages and ancient temples, one of which was Abu Simbel. So, they have power, but no preservation of ancient human kind history. It's just sad to think that they've had to move and rebuild these ancient temples because they didn't do the proper planning in the first place.

Josh and I swam in the Nile last night......freaking cold! When we dove in from the top of our boat it was like hitting an ice wall. Still, pretty neat. The water upstream is pretty clean and we decided to take a dip before having dinner in a Nubian village.

We'll be on the felucca for a few days, so the next post may be a while. Until then.......

Love, peace, and soul.

I have the Atlas on the dining table with your itinerary beside it. Each day I read where you are going and find in on the Egypt map. Thanks for the Google suggestion. Now I check your schedule, find it on the map, and then google it to see the different pictures about where and what you guys are seeing and experiencing. Try your download at the airport as you start your next leg. Mom

Claustraphobia would prevent me from entering the tombs. Had I been in charge of the excavations, everything would still be intact.

Bros - I hope you really "dug" the temples. As the Jamaicans would say, you were in de Nile. Everything is fine in the good ol' USA. Stay safe and keep rockin'.
